Steps To Finding A Guard That Fits
Check out our presentation by clicking through the slides below or download it here. Click here to open the presentation in a new window. All of our standard bearing covers should fit over similar size bearings of most manufacturers. Check dimensions, and if you have any questions contact us. You can always use one size bigger if in doubt.
For large pillow block bearings we may have to fabricate a custom cover.
We also frequently fabricate coupling covers larger than the ones in our standard catalog.
Stock Guards |
Will a guard you stock work for my application? | |

Standard Guard Or Tapered Guard? If the radii of the area you need covered are the same size, or very close in size, your best choice is a standard guard. Just make sure to order based on the larger of the two radii! However, if one of your radii is much larger than the other, you may prefer a tapered guard. Rectangular guards are also good for many applications.
Find The Height of the space you need covered. Remember that our guards are measured from their inside dimensions.
Find The Width of the space you need covered.
Find The Overall Length of the space you need covered. Alternatively, find the radius of both ends and the center distance.
Flanged Or Unflanged? Decide how you will mount the guard. If you have plenty of space around the area that needs to be covered, mounting a guard through the flange is easiest. A flat backplate is the best choice for a flanged guard. If space around the guard is tight, choose an unflanged guard and order a tabbed backplate. Unflanged guards are normally mounted throughh the side of the guard through the backplate tab.
Guards can be used singly, with a backplate, or in pairs back to back.

If the guard you need is a bit shorter than one listed, consider having us cut it down into an unflanged guard with a tabbed backplate so that you can mount it. If you need something taller than the guards we have listed, consider using two flanged guards back to back.
Custom Guards |
I don't see what I need. What should I do? |
If you need a standard shaped guard, a tapered guard or a custom sized rectangle, just send us the inside dimensions. Please note that almost all of our parts are created with a 4 degree draft that aids us in the forming process. We also have created a number of unusual custom parts for our customers. If you have something in mind, send us a print or sketch, and we will work with you to create a guard that will fit your needs. We will be prompt with a quote for the tooling and the guards.
Custom Trims |
Customer Lettering |
Need something extra? We can add in mounting holes, change the width of a flange or use our CNC router to custom trim a part to your specifications. |
